snow day (for those that don't work from home at least!)

it has been quite the week leading up to this weekend's storm.  we had about 4 inches or so on tuesday night and was informed that this was the least of our worries.  not that we would worry about 4 measly inches (after our 20 inches in december), but it's everyone else that freaks out.  those of you who have lived in NOVA know what i'm talking about!

the first accumulation guesses were 12"...not great, but not horrible either.  later in the week it increased to 16-18".  hmmmm, getting a little more unbearable.  yesterday we were told the accumulations were now going to be between 18-24".  okay, so i don't want to have to deal with the same amount of snow we had in december, but at least we've learned from the last storm in that the snow removal process will be a group effort with all of our neighbors this time.

but...............i just checked washingtonpost.com and luckily i was sitting down.

LOOKING BACK AT THE BIGGEST STORM OF RECORD FOR WASHINGTON DC... THE JANUARY 1922 KNICKERBOCKER STORM ... 28.0 INCHES OF SNOW WAS PRODUCED FROM 3.02 INCHES OF LIQUID WATER. CURRENT FORECASTS FOR THIS EVENT HAVE TOTAL LIQUID FALLING FROM THIS STORM APPROACHING 3 INCHES ... WHICH ACCORDINGLY WOULD CREATE A SNOWFALL THAT WILL RIVAL THE KNICKERBOCKER STORM TOTAL. GENERALLY ACROSS THE REGION ... 20 TO 30 INCHES OF SNOW WILL FALL BY SATURDAY EVENING. (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitalweathergang/)

Chris Strong, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) Office in Sterling, Va. just emailed CWG and other media outlets the following note:

Our media partners,

If you would, please ensure these points get some airtime. Tonight into Saturday morning will be about as dangerous as winter weather can get around here. Thank you.NWS Baltimore/WashingtonChris Strong

mwrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  thanks for the fear factor chris!!!  no need to panic...it's just the worst storm in almost 80 years.  yeah, thanks for calming people down!  ;)

luckily we have plenty of milk, juice, eggs, meat to grill, soup, bread, beer, vodka and gin!  :)  and in light of our impending doom here are some names for our friendly storm:

  • snowpocalypse
  • snowtastical
  • snOMG!
  • snovechkin (caps hockey player for those that don't understand this one)
  • snowbrainer
  • snowly moley
  • ...and my all time personal favorite....what i will be calling this storm.....snowtorious B.I.G.!

happy birthday mojo!

mojo turned two today!!

she has been the best dog ever!  and since she's the first dog i've ever had, she's my most favorite dog in the whole wide world.  i couldn't imagine not having her in my life now.

most people cringe when we first tell them she's a pit bull.  but then they get to know her and realize that she's the biggest sweetheart and goofball of a dog they've ever met.  she usually has a fan club wherever she goes.  even if it's just to petsmart!

my wish and hope for the coming years of mojo's life is that she continues to be an ambassador for pit bulls all over.  she has changed many people's perception of what a true pit bull is like and it makes me so happy and proud to call her my dog.

here's to many more years of pibble kisses to come <3

Crafts

this past year for christmas i decided to make as many presents as i
could. i found an adorable pattern on etsy.com and adapted it for
erin's baby shower to be a diaper/wipe carrier...but it's original
purpose was to be a woman's clutch. i still haven't made one for
myself, but here are all the ones i made for christmas presents.

thanks grady for my sewing machine! :)

pibble love

over new years weekend we took a trip to see our good friends nicole
and jeremy in raleigh, nc. i had worked with nicole at hecht's when
we were both in the advertising department. until just recently, they
lived in old town alexandria, but jeremy got a new job so they had to
move away from us about 6 months ago. it had been too long since we
had seen them so we finally made plans to get together and have a
relaxed long weekend. they just got a new puppy too, so we decided we
would wear her out with help from our little mojo! as you can see
they got along just fine.

after taking a look at clover and trying to figure out what kind of
mix she was, nicole told us that the vet thinks she's a pitbull mix of
some sort as well! YEAH!! pibble power!! :) again, they both did
very well together, and mojo even helped clover enjoy her nice walks
along the creek that she doesn't normally enjoy. it was so cute to
see mojo act like a big sister. it made us want to get a second
one...but we need more land for that (we're very jealous of nicole and
jeremy's backyard. we told them we could just live in the studio in
the back! HA!).

raleigh is quite the place though. it reminded me of all the good
parts of richmond! here were some of the highlights:

BEST burger i've had (since richmond): The Raleigh Times:
http://www.raleightimesbar.com/ they also had a VERY good beer
selection.

CUTEST neighborhood that we drove through: Kitts Creek:
http://www.kittscreek.com/pages/lifestyle/photo_gallery.html take a
look at the exterior shots. unfortunately the model homes were all
sold so we couldn't take a look at the insides. maybe next time! ;)

beer HAVEN (favorite spot since richmond!): Flying Saucer:
http://www.beerknurd.com/stores/raleigh with something like 800
different beers to choose from...grady and i could have stayed there
all....year?! if we lived closer to one we definitely would have
signed up for the UFO club. very cool place!

LEGAL moonshine?!: Foundation:
http://www.newraleigh.com/articles/archive/foundation-raleigh-bar/
yes, legal moonshine!! and they didn't sell ANY food!!! we were
blown away. apparently foundation is a "private club" so they don't
have to sell food with their alcohol. and yes, we had some of the
moonshine and it was actually REALLY good! and no, we weren't
hallucinating afterwards! :)

MARTHA?!: http://www.kbhome.com/martha/ yes, this one neighborhood of
KB Homes was a Martha Stewart development!! again, the model homes
were all sold so we couldn't go inside any of them. but, they were
rapidly building new models because they just changed all of their
floorplans. we went into one being built and i think grady and i both
fell in love...even with it just being studded!!

worst part of the trip.....going home! :) we had so much fun, and i
can't thank nicole and jeremy enough for such a fun filled (yet still
super relaxing) weekend. we can't wait until the next time.

oh boy oh boy!

mojo must have been an EXTRA special girl this year because grandpa
bought her the biggest bone she has ever seen! and in classic mojo
style, she hasn't tried to chew on the bone, she just carries it with
her everywhere she goes.

you'll hear a loud thud and think someone feel to the ground upstairs.
nope...it was just mojo dropping the bone because it was too heavy for
her to carry anymore.

lately she's been herding her three favorite toys together: christmas
tree, bone, and ripped open pink tennis ball. i'll have to take a
picture of that the next time i see her do it.

she loves her bones though. we'll see how long the big one lasts once
her boyfriend pluto comes back from germany!

christmas morning

it looked like everyone at our house this year was pretty good. santa
made sure to stuff everyone's stockings and leave plenty of presents!!
and what kind of christmas would it be without mojo making the rounds
and giving everyone some love. she wants to also give a special thank
you to her cousin jerry for the christmas tree squeakie toy he sent
her. she just loves it! mojo also got a special treat from grady to
keep her occupied...peanut butter stuffed bone. YUMMY!

grady popped the champagne and got the orange juice ready. i put the
breakfast casserole in the oven. and we all had a wonderful christmas
breakfast! then it was onto presents!

we didn't take any pictures during presents...sorry...but you can see
from rudy that it was just too exhausting for most! ;)
